JK Fenner (India) Ltd. is one of India's leading manufacturers of power transmission products, sealing solutions, and engineered industrial components. During my internship, I gained first-hand exposure to modern manufacturing processes, quality control systems, and the production of mechanical power transmission products used across various industries. Working alongside experienced engineers and technicians allowed me to understand how engineering principles are applied on a large industrial scale to manufacture reliable, high-quality products.

Throughout my internship, I observed the complete manufacturing workflow, from raw material processing to the inspection of finished products. I spent time learning about wrapped belts, bearings, production planning, quality assurance, and industrial safety practices. This experience strengthened my understanding of manufacturing engineering while giving me valuable insight into how mechanical products are designed, produced, tested, and delivered to customers.

My Experience with Power Transmission Products

One of the most interesting aspects of my internship was learning about power transmission systems. I was introduced to different types of industrial belts and their applications in machinery, automotive systems, agricultural equipment, and manufacturing plants.

I learned how wrapped belts are constructed using multiple layers of rubber, reinforcing cords, and protective fabric to provide durability, flexibility, and efficient power transmission. Engineers explained how factors such as belt tension, pulley alignment, and operating conditions directly affect performance and service life. This helped me understand the importance of material selection and product design in mechanical engineering.

My Experience in Manufacturing

During my internship, I observed various manufacturing processes used to produce industrial belts and mechanical components. I learned how raw materials are processed through different stages before becoming finished products that meet strict engineering specifications.

Watching the production line helped me understand how modern manufacturing relies on precision, process control, and teamwork between different departments. It also showed me the importance of maintaining consistency throughout every stage of production to ensure reliable product performance.

My Experience in the Quality Control Department

Quality Control plays an essential role in ensuring every product leaving the factory meets performance and safety requirements.

During my time with the QC team, I observed various inspection methods used to verify product dimensions, material quality, and overall manufacturing accuracy.

I learned how engineers identify defects before products reach customers and how continuous inspection helps reduce waste while maintaining consistent product quality.

This experience reinforced the importance of precision, attention to detail, and maintaining high engineering standards throughout the manufacturing process.

Understanding Workplace Safety and Industrial Standards

Safety was an important part of everyday operations throughout the factory.

Before entering the production area, I was introduced to workplace safety procedures, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), machine safety practices, and proper material handling techniques. I also learned how standard operating procedures and quality management systems help maintain a safe and efficient manufacturing environment.

This experience highlighted that successful engineering is not only about designing products but also about creating safe, organised, and efficient workplaces.

Skills Gained

This internship significantly expanded my understanding of industrial manufacturing and mechanical engineering. I developed practical knowledge of power transmission systems, manufacturing processes, quality inspection, bearings, production planning, and industrial safety practices.

Most importantly, the experience strengthened my interest in Mechanical Engineering by showing how design, manufacturing, and quality assurance work together to produce reliable engineering products used in industries around the world.
