BHSEL is a joint venture between Elbit Systems, Israel and Aditya Precitech Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad. Is a defence manufacturing company specialising in the assembly, integration, testing, and maintenance of advanced weapon systems for military applications. The company plays a vital role in transforming complex engineering designs into fully operational defence equipment through precision manufacturing, quality assurance, and system integration.

During my 15-day internship (120 hours), I had the opportunity to observe the production and assembly of two key defence systems manufactured by the company: the Naval Surface Gun (NSG) and the Range Extension Kit (REK) 250 and REK 450. These systems combine mechanical engineering, electronics, software integration, and precision manufacturing to deliver reliable performance in demanding defence environments.

Throughout my internship, I worked across the Design Engineering, Production Planning and Control (PPC), and Production departments. This allowed me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the complete engineering process—from CAD design and production planning to assembly, calibration, testing, and final quality inspection. The experience provided valuable insight into how multidisciplinary engineering teams collaborate to manufacture high-performance defence systems with exceptional precision and reliability.

Blue Horizons Strategic Engineering Pvt Ltd

My experience in the Design Department

The Design Department is the foundation of every product manufactured at Blue Horizon. Engineers receive baseline designs from the parent organisation and adapt them to meet production requirements. They are responsible for preparing Technical Data Packages (TDPs), engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring that every component can be manufactured accurately.

 

During my four days in this department, I worked alongside experienced design engineers and was introduced to professional CAD software, including [SolidWorks] and [Fusion 360]. I learned how three-dimensional models are created, how engineering drawings communicate manufacturing information, and how every dimension, tolerance, and material specification plays a vital role in producing reliable defence systems. This experience helped me appreciate the importance of precision, documentation, and digital engineering in modern manufacturing.

My experience in Production Planning & Control (PPC)

The PPC department serves as the coordination centre of the manufacturing process. It manages production schedules, procurement, inventory, vendor communication, and quality planning to ensure every product is manufactured efficiently and delivered on time. During my time in this department, I learned how production is carefully organised using specialised planning software.

 

I observed how engineering components are sourced, how suppliers are selected through quotations, and how every stage of manufacturing is monitored to maintain workflow efficiency. One of the most interesting aspects was learning about the [Pre-Dispatch Inspection (PDI)] process, where every defence product undergoes more than [200 quality checks] before approval. This demonstrated how planning and quality assurance are essential for producing reliable defence equipment.

The Production Department is where engineering designs become fully functional defence systems. Technicians assemble mechanical components, perform electrical wiring, install software, calibrate sensors, and carry out extensive testing before the product reaches the customer.Working on the shop floor gave me valuable exposure to professional manufacturing practices.

 

I learned about workshop safety, precision assembly techniques, engineering tools, and quality inspection procedures. I also observed how CAD models and Technical Data Packages are translated into physical products through accurate manufacturing processes.This hands-on experience significantly improved my understanding of industrial manufacturing and reinforced the importance of teamwork, precision, and quality control in defence engineering.

My experience in Production Department

The internship strengthened both my technical knowledge and practical engineering skills. I gained experience in CAD modelling, engineering documentation, production planning, manufacturing workflows, procurement, quality assurance, and industrial safety. More importantly, I developed a deeper appreciation for how different engineering departments collaborate to manufacture complex defence systems with exceptional precision and reliability. This experience confirmed my passion for Mechanical Engineering and motivated me to continue developing the skills required to contribute to advanced engineering and manufacturing industries in the future.
